Consciousness-based Community

Salt Spring Island is home to many meditators. The outstanding beauty and peace in this natural environment has attracted many people who were searching for a place that would support the growth of consciousness. Now a community is gathering on this island to help create permanent world peace.

"When I came to Salt Spring on my first visit, I had no intention of moving to an island. After two days here, I realized that Salt Spring felt like home. There was something special about it that was drawing me here. At that point I knew that this was where I would build my Maharishi Sthapatya Veda home."

Global Country of World Peace FlagMeditators from around the world have moved to Salt Spring to experience the benefits of living in a community based on consciousness. However this community is not just a place to live in peace; it is a real generator of peace for the world.

On Dec. 14, 2002, the flag of the Global Country of World Peace was raised on Salt Spring and the island was declared "An Island of Peace".

On this beautiful island, meditators gather regularly to practice Vedic technologies of peace and programs that promote the ultimate goal of life, enlightenment. These programs not only benefit the individual, but also radiate to the surrounding environment bringing peace to Salt Spring and to the world.

Architecture that Promotes Peace

A recent world-wide revival of an ancient form of architecture has emerged on Salt Spring Island. Vedic Architecture, also known as Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, is the science of building in harmony with nature. Vedic Architecture (also known as Vastu) brings increased success, improved health and happiness to its inhabitants and promotes peace and harmony. The main principles of Vastu can be found at the Canadian Maharishi Sthapatya Veda web site.

Natural, Non-toxic materials

The use of natural, non-toxic materials and sustainable building practices is emphasized in Maharishi Vedic architecture and is combined with ancient Vedic principles designed to bring maximum benefits to the inhabitants. These principles include alignment of the buildings with the cardinal axis, appropriate placement of rooms and precise Vedic dimensions.

Centuries of traditional Vedic knowledge emphasize the importance of proper construction of buildings according to Vedic architecture for the health and prosperity of the inhabitants. We only have to look at the upsurge of occurrences of sick-building syndrome produced by our modern building technology to realize the harm that can come from improper building techniques. A Maharishi Sthapatya Veda building produces none of these negative effects and actually enhances the coherence of the activities conducted there.

The principles of Vedic architecture are precisely incorporated in each structure to produce maximum support for everyone who enters the building or resides there. As a result, the individuals are happier, healthier, more peaceful and more successful.
